I have a curious mix of passions for all things artistic as well as all things organized. I am fascinated with humanity – the ways we make sense of ourselves, society and our natural environment. I am passionate about the earth and our care of it. And I have an unending sense of wonder in the Divine mystery that enfolds all.
I express these interests artistically and in Christian ministry. I currently serve as Senior Minister at First Congregational Church of Akron. And, when not there, I enjoy gardening, hiking, building websites, working on art projects, theatre, reading and playing board games.
My professional and ministry interest and passion centers on enabling people to be empowered to feel they are living fruitful and harmonious lives that promote love, justice, and peace. As a social critic and advocate for human progress, I enjoy discussions that unravel the ways in which we and others have constructed our society and made meaning of things like class, race, gender, and spirituality. I enjoy imagining how we can re-tool society so it might be more just, more loving, and more equitable toward all.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Simmons College with a focus on Transnational Studies, Gender Studies, and Web Design, and a Master of Divinity degree with a Certificate in Spiritual and Pastoral Care from Andover Newton Theological School. I am ordained in the United Church of Christ. My ministry experience includes having served as Acting Associate Minister at First Church in West Hartford, CT, a Field Education ministerial intern at Old South Union Church in Weymouth, MA, a seminary intern at The Hills Church in Wellesley, MA, and chaplain at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. My background is in theater – acting, directing, and coaching. And as a web designer with a focus on usability, accessibility, and information architecture.
I grew up in sunny South Africa and, after a 15 year stint in New England, now live in West Akron with my spouse, Steven Savides, our two cats, Molly and Emerson, and delightful pup, Maggie.
