Love working with the editors and feeling that I&#8217;m doing my part to shed light on events impacting the community.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>April 4, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/signalakron.org\/challenges-and-cheers-as-akron-graduates-diverse-class-of-firefighters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">My most recent article <\/a>is about Akron&#8217;s newest class of firefighters.<\/strong> Given the current assault on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives in the United States, it was a privilege to bear witness to Akron Fire Department&#8217;s progress in this regard. Major props to Chief Henderson and the women and men under his command for the outstanding work they do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March 6, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>An <a href=\"https:\/\/signalakron.org\/natural-gas-pipeline-replacements-affect-streets-in-fairlawn-heights-white-pond-drive-neighborhoods-akron\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">update on a gas pipeline replacement<\/a> project in one of Akron&#8217;s neighborhoods.<\/strong> Some residents were concerned about the disruption to traffic, so providing context and information was essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February 24, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here&#8217;s an <strong>article about a<a href=\"https:\/\/signalakron.org\/akrons-all-america-bridge-to-get-replacement-fence-continue-deterring-suicide-attempts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> <\/a>collaboration between the Ohio Department of Transportation and the City of Akron to <a href=\"https:\/\/signalakron.org\/akrons-all-america-bridge-to-get-replacement-fence-continue-deterring-suicide-attempts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">replace a suicide-prevention fence<\/a><\/strong> at its current height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February 10, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After several high-profile incidents of police violence toward Black Akronites last year, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/signalakron.org\/policing-from-a-black-perspective-invites-residents-to-participate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">this story was about an upcoming policing forum<\/a> led Black law enforcement officers from around Northeast Ohio. <\/strong>It was convened by Akron Police Department&#8217;s chaplain, who also serves as a local pastor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>January 29, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the days after President Trump took office,<a href=\"https:\/\/signalakron.org\/refugees-headed-to-akron-area-have-their-trips-canceled-by-u-s-immigration-officials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> <strong>I reported on the impact of an executive order banning refugee entry to the US<\/strong><\/a><strong> on the refugees who were due to arrive in Akron within weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-larger-font-size\"><strong>FaithND&#8217;s Daily Gospel Reflection, March 17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On March 17, I had the pleasure offering the <strong>Daily Gospel Reflection for FaithND<\/strong>, a ministry of the Notre Dame Alumni Association.
